Though school cafeterias throughout Mt. Pleasant Public Schools (MPPS) may be quiet while students are home for virtual learning, the district continues to provide breakfast and lunch to students and local children at no cost.

MPPS schools went virtual on Thursday, Jan.13 in response to elevated COVID-19 cases in the district. In-person classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, Jan. 31.

“Providing our children with healthy, nutritious meals is one of the many ways we support their growth and development, and we’re happy to continue offering these meal choices at no charge while students are home for virtual learning,” Superintendent Jennifer Verleger said. “We urge parents and caregivers to take advantage of the meals we’re supplying and have one less thing to worry about while juggling their daily schedules.”

MPPS distributed more than 2,100 meals on Jan. 13 and 4,600 meals on Tuesday. Meals will again be distributed on Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ganiard Elementary, 101 S. Adams Street, and Mt. Pleasant High School, 1155 S. Elizabeth Street.

Students and any children age 18 and under are eligible to receive packaged breakfasts and lunches for up to five days per week. The meals are also available to any student receiving special education services up to age 26.
