An Alachua man died of injuries he sustained after he traveled into the path of a passing semi truck Tuesday morning.

William Moore, 45, was walking across U.S. 441 near Turkey Creek Boulevard in a northerly direction at about 6:45 a.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

A semi truck driven by George Metz II, 58, of Lake Butler, was traveling east on U.S. 441 when Moore crossed in front of the truck’s path for unknown reasons, the release said.

Moore was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Metz was not injured. No charges have been filed, but the accident is under investigation.
