An important week for the Belgian healthcare system, turning digital
While the announcement by the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (RIZIV-INAMI) of the official template for the re-imbursement of mobile applications got significant attention this week, also another 2 Apps were just added to the Belgian mHealth pyramid.
This pyramid shows Apps which are CE-marked as a medical device, and passed steps M1 & M2 of the Belgian validation process indicated above.
These novel Apps are remote monitoring tool Comarch Home health and hearing aid Nucleus smart App.
Germany remains in the European driver seat for now. Since the first two Apps got approved for prescription and reimbursement in October 2020, the counter today is on 10 applications. You can follow developments here. It seems Belgium gets ready now to put its firm stake in the ground. The implications of limited overlap between the German and Belgian frontrunning Apps is a discussion for a seperate post.
Meanwhile, with our Healthskouts team, we still curate our global database with any certified digital health App here.
Also, we are preparing a landscape analysis of the Flanders ‘Smart Health’ landscape to support our government in making important strategic funding (and other) decisions in the upcoming years, including what steps to take next. Stay tuned.
