BERLIN - Leading brands involved in the ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation) initiative have released a joint statement expressing their "deep concern" for their supply chain workers following the military coup in Myanmar.
H&M, Zara owner Inditex and Primark have all signed the statement, along with Bestseller, C&A, Esprit, Lidl, New Look, Next, Tchibo and Tesco, as well as the IndustriALL global trade union, calling for human rights to be respected.
Garment workers in Myanmar have been at the heart of pro-deomcracy protests in Myanmar, being pictured on social media giving the three-fingered salute and wearing red ribbons, both of which have become symbols of resistance to the coup.
