NORRISTOWN — Montgomery County closed out the end of last week adding nearly 300 new COVID-19 cases in two days.

There were 296 cases recorded between Sept. 23 and Sept. 24. Of those, four were found in long-term care facilities and one came from the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Eagleville, according to Montgomery County’s COVID-19 dashboard. One death was also reported during the same time frame.

That brings the total count to 66,179 COVID-19 cases and 1,357 deaths that have been accounted for since the first cases were detected here on March 7, 2020.

Additionally, 123 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 in Montgomery County medical facilities, 10 of whom are on ventilators, according to the county’s online dashboard.

According to figures from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Montgomery County has a positivity rate of 5.3 percent, which is based on the “most recent seven days.”

The area has a reported incidence rate of 113.7 cases per 100,000 residents from the most recent seven days, placing the county in a “high” category of community transmission.

County health officials wrote on the dashboard in part that “changes in prevention strategies including masking and screening would be recommended when there are two consecutive weeks of increase or decrease in transmission levels.”

Additionally, 59,648 Montgomery County residents have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 447,148 residents have been fully inoculated, according to figures from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
