… if her own people do not?
The pressure of higher school standards grinds on and it’s proving an interesting test of whether people really mean it when they say they want to preserve local schools.
The latest example comes from Green Forest. Green Forest voters have been told by state officials they have to have a plan for facilities improvement by spring or face the steps that lead to district consolidation. In brief, this means voters, who have already twice turned down tax increases for school projects, must approve an increase in April or face the consequences. The progressive consequences are wrenching and end with consolidation: Replacement of the superintendent, election of a new school board; elimination of money spent on anything except education (no sports, in other words and possibly no free transportation).
No sports. Maybe that will get their attention.
