Just when the Chicago Bulls got stretch big man Lauri Markkanen back, they lose another big. According to the team, Wendell Carter Jr. will be out for at least four weeks with a severe right quad contusion.

Furthermore, per Cody Westerlund of 670TheScore.com, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan shared that the injury is a pretty significant bruise in the quad and that it will “take some time to heal.”

This comes as a big blow to the Bulls, who are trying to finally have a winning season and make it to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign. Chicago has yet to make the postseason entering their fourth year with Zach LaVine as the main man.

Prior to the injury, Wendell Carter Jr. was putting up 12.8 points, 8.0 boards and 2.4 dimes per game. With this unfortunate injury, sophomore Daniel Gafford figures to fill in the Bulls' hole in the middle. In his rookie season, Gafford played an average of 14.2 minutes per game with averages of 5.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and a promising 1.3 block.

The Bulls currently hold 7-10 record, though they are on a two-game skid after losing to the Boston Celtics on Monday. Aside from LaVine and Carter, Chicago has some interesting pieces in athletic guard Coby White and rookie wing Patrick Williams–who was the fourth overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft.
