Deputy involved shooting near Steak and Shake in Fort Pierce, deceased suspect identified
UPDATE - The deceased suspect has been identified as Rio Antwuan Thomas. PREVIOUS STORY - St. Lucie County sheriff's deputies attempted to arrest a known drug dealer during a drug deal drop off in Fort Pierce.The suspect attempted to flee the scene as deputies approached his vehicle.Deputies shot the vehicle as the suspect drove over the parking barrier and drove up a hill in an attempt to get away.The suspect, a major heroin dealer in two counties according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara, was shot and killed at the scene.Mascara says his deputies used force to stop the fleeing vehicle. The shooting happened in the 2800 block of Okeechobee Road inside the Long John Silvers parking lot.No deputies were injured. The suspect has not been identified. The investigation is on going at this time.
