Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was on Tuesday told by two farmers that the government's new policies have inspired them to plant trees.

Madhu Choudhary made the statement in Surguja district when Baghel did bhoomi pujjan for development works virtually from Raipur.

She said that earlier there was hesitation in her mind about tree plantation because of strict rules governing the cutting of trees on private land. This has now been done away with.

She said she will be planting papaya and mehndi on five acres of land. She and the others are getting assistance from the Forest Department, she added.

The Chief Minister said people should be encouraged more and more to plant saplings. He said no permission willd be needed from any department in future for cutting trees on private land.

Ramsunder Rajwade of Surguja told Baghel that he sold 188 quintals of paddy this year and got the first installment of Rs 30,690 under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana.  Rajwade said he has decided to plant sandalwood and mango trees.
