Board of Ed. approves agenda items

Apr. 16—POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education met on Tuesday evening to approve agenda items.

In attendance at the meeting were board members Dale Shobe, Rhonda Tennant, Jared Billings, Meagan Bonecutter and Ashley Cossin.

The board approved three consecutive weeks (weeks 1, 2, and 3) of school organized, out of season practices, beginning July 5, 2021 thru July 23, 2021.

The board approved a motion to submit Calendar "A " to the West Virginia Department of Education as the 2021/22 school year calendar.

The following policies were placed on a five-day review and comment period: Policy #2230.01-Program of Study Middle School Education; #2270-Religion in the Curriculum; and #5611-Discipline-Student Due Process Rights.

The following professional personnel matters were approved: Family Medical Leave for Melissa Bledsoe, Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave; grant Family Medical Leave for Nicole Hoover, Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave; grant Family Medical Leave for Ruth Sheets, Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave; the employment of Frances Blake, LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective for the 2021/22 school year; the employment of Margaret Cade, LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher, Ashton Elementary, effective April 15, 2021; the employment of Paige Gerlach, Substitute Teacher, effective for the 2020/21 school year; and accept the resignation of John Fields, Math Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective April 13, 2021.

The board approved the contracts of the following Professional Employees in accordance with WV Code 18A-2-2, be terminated due to Reduction In Force, effective at the end of the 2020/21 school year: Jennifer Bartee-Beale Elementary; Karen Bennett-Point Pleasant Intermediate School; Richelle Boswell-Leon Elementary; Bryanna Grant-Ashton Elementary; Chelsea Steelhammer-Ashton Elementary; Madison Stewart-New Haven Elementary; Allison Townson-Ashton Elementary; Kaylee Weaver-Leon Elementary.

The board approved the placement of the following professional personnel on Transfer and Subsequent Assignment in accordance with WV Code 18A-2-7, effective at the end of the 2020/21 school year: Jennifer Errett-Roosevelt Elementary; Haley Tate-Roosevelt Elementary; Kayla Tucker-Roosevelt Elementary; Wendy Lehew-Roosevelt Elementary; Kristin Wallbrown-Beale Elementary; Lauren Wamsley-Ashton Elementary.

For service personnel, the following items were approved: grant Family Medical Leave for Deloris Shepard, Aide, New Haven Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave; the employment of Tracy Diehl, Secretary, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, effective April 15, 2021; the placement of the following Service Personnel on Transfer and Subsequent Assignment in accordance with WV Code 18A-2-7, effective at the end of the 2020/21 school year: Sarah Lamm, Central Office Itinerant; the contracts of the following Service Employees in accordance with WV Code 18A-2-6, be terminated due to Reduction in Force, effective at the end of the 2020/21 school year: Amy Hively-Central Office Itinerant; Kacee Rainey-Central Office Itinerant; and the placement of the following Service Personnel on Transfer and Subsequent Assignment in accordance with WV Code 18A-2-7, effective at the end of the 2020/21 school year: John Absten, Kenneth Blessing, Laura Bonecutter, Clyde Bowen, Misty Bowen, Kathy Bruner, Roger Bumgarner, John Casey, John S. The following extra-curricular matters were approved by the board: the resignation of Kira Northup, Jr High Assistant Volleyball Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, effective March 11, 2021; the resignation of Joshua Starkey, Assistant Varsity Football Coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective March 25, 2021; the employment of Brianne Solomon, Dance Coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective for the 2020/21 school year; the employment of Shane Dunn, Jr High Head Baseball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective for the 2020/21 school year; the employment of Stephen Richardson, Assistant Varsity/JV Baseball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective for the 2020/21 school year; and the employment of Joshua Young, Jr High Assistant Baseball Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, effective for the 2020/21 school year.

The board approved the purchase of 181 all-in-one desktop computers for staff use, to be purchased from Zones, at the cost of $163,077.36. ESSERF 2 Grant Monies will be the Funding Source.

The board approved the purchase and installation of 48 Smart TVs, to be purchased from Netranom, at the cost of $70,000.00 ESSERF 2 Grant Monies will be the Funding Source.

The board approved the purchase of 50 Interactive Display Board, to be purchased from Lite the Nite, at the cost of $92,450.00 ESSERF 2 Grant Monies will be the Funding Source.

The board approved the sale of (3) three buses to be sold at the FFA Auction to be held on April 24, 2021, at the Mason County Career Center: 2001 International 77 passenger, 2003 International 77 passenger, and 2006 International 77 passenger. All buses will be sold "as is". One 50' refrigerated trailer, to be sold "as is".

The board approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers and supplements in the total amount of $1,424,434.50.

The Mason County Board of Education will meet on April 20 for a special superintendent position meeting and a reconvened special statutory business meeting.
