POB JFK High School Student Tests Positive For Coronavirus

PLAINVIEW, NY — A student at Plainview-Old Bethpage High School has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, but based on the facts of the case, the building reopened for staff the following day.

Mary O' Meara, superintendent of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District, told parents in a letter it learned of the positive case Thursday. The school remained open Friday for staff based on a recommendation from health officials. Students learn remotely Fridays.

The building was to be disinfected and ventilated Thursday evening, officials said.

"We have been working with the Nassau County Department of Health throughout the day to assist with their contact tracing investigation," O' Meara said.

People identified as close contacts or proximate contacts will be notified by the health department or district.

School districts across Long Island have seen coronavirus cases in the opening days and weeks of the new school year, including Mineola, Wantagh, Seaford, Syosset, Oyster Bay, New Hyde Park, Great Neck, Plainview, Levittown and Hicksville.
