William Robinson Murdoch, age 87, passed away at his son’s home in Bucyrus, Ohio on October 24, 2019. William was born to the late Walter B. Murdoch and Elizabeth M. Robinson on January 17, 1932 in New Britain, Connecticut. William was married to Phyllis Lynn Murdoch and preceded by his wife, brother, Duncan Murdoch; and brother in law, Jimmy Seaman. William is survived by children, Mark (Karen) Murdoch, Scott (Carla) Murdoch, and David (Kacie) Murdoch; 5 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren, sister, Ann (Tony) Cooper; and sisters-in-law, Sandra Murdoch and Carol Seaman. William was a descendent of the Reverend Dr. Dwight Baldwin of Durham, a 19th century Christian missionary and medical doctor on Maui, for whom the Baldwin House museum in Lahaina is named. Following the untimely death of William’s father at a young age, the family lived with their paternal grandparents on Maui until the attack on Pearl Harbor. They returned to New Britain, whereupon William attended the Gunnery School in Washington Depot, CT, and later, Clarkson University and the University of Connecticut. William was a former U.S. Marine during the Korean War. He received accolades such as National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal. William went into teaching after the military, with math being his subject of choice. He taught at various private schools in CT, MA, and MI. He was a member of the American Legion. He loved playing cards, enjoyed coaching numerous sports, and going camping with his family. There will be a service at 10am on November 26 at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Meriden, CT.
