State minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid on Saturday said that the time now demanded making energy storage management sustainable.

‘Applications of energy storage will increase as much as the increase of the use of renewable energy and electric vehicles. Price of energy storage applications should be affordable,’ he said.

Nasrul was addressing a webinar on storage applications in Bangladesh power system arranged by Energy and Power magazine.

He said that peak, off-peak hour, affordable energy and storage management should be fixed in Bangladesh perspectives.

There is no alternative to considering energy storage to get the full benefits of renewable energy, he said.

‘Besides, the demand for power in off-peak hours remains low. It is possible to meet the demand for power in peak hours by storing power in off-peak hours,’ he said.

He underscored the need for finding out effective ways for energy storage considering the economic and technical aspects and environmental challenges for the country.

Necessary funds for research in this regard can be collected from the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council and logistic support from the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority’ (SREDA), he said.

Ahmed Saber, VP Optimization and AI (visionary intelligent energy leader) at US-based automation and power sudation software institution ETAP, presented the keynote paper.

Energy and Power magazine editor Mollah Amzad Hossain moderated the webinar while Power Cell director general Mohammad Hossain, SREDA chairman Mohammad Alauddin, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Nuclear and Power Engineering Institute director Abdul Hasib Chowdhury and GIZ programme coordinator Al Motabbir Bin Anam, addressed it, among others.
