Man facing embezzlement charge after stealing lottery tickets, cigarettes

A 42-year-old Monroe man is facing charges of embezzlement after he allegedly stole more than $600 in lottery tickets while working recently as a cashier at the Pilot Travel Center in the City of Monroe.

According to the Monroe Police Department, authorities at the center located at 1100 N. Dixie Hwy. said the man was captured several times on surveillance cameras taking tickets and not paying for them during his work shift. The suspect was also seen taking cigarette packs and not paying for them either, a patrolman’s report said. The store manager said the employee would be terminated as a result of the investigation.

Four tires on vehicle slashed

A Monroe man, 26, is wanted for questioning in connection with four tires on a 2007 Ford Edge that were slashed, causing an estimated $800 in damage, Monroe Police said.

The vandalism occurred while the vehicle was parked in the 500 block of S. Roessler St., a patrolman’s report said. The owner of the car told police she had an argument with the suspect the day before the incident. The suspect is the father of her child and lives nearby, the report said.

Man arrested for possession of narcotics

A 33-year-old homeless man was arrested by Monroe Police after he was found carrying suspected fentanyl at the Oaks Village in Monroe.

When questioned by police, the man admitted to taking a “bunch of fentanyl.” Police found a small piece of paper on him containing .3 grams of a tan powder that was tested and determined to be fentanyl. The suspect was lodged in the county jail without incident.

Equipment missing from job site

An E50 Bobcat excavator was reported missing from the construction site at a home in the 500 block of E. First St. in the City of Monroe last week, Monroe Police said.

The machine was rented from Herc Rentals in Romulus for construction by a plumbing contractor. The excavator had a GPS device on it that could be used to track the equipment. Tire tracks were found in an alley near the home, a patrolman’s report said.

Window on car broken

Monroe Police said someone broke a rear window on a 2015 Ford Edge while it was parked overnight in a driveway in the 600 block of N. Roessler St. last week.

There was no other malicious damage reported to the vehicle, a patrolman’s report said.
