Ohio Connections Academy Recognizes Central Ohio Students

Star Student Award recognizes students for achievement in and out of the virtual classroom

Two Ohio Connections Academy students from central Ohio were recently recognized for their academic achievements and leadership as they were named Star Students of the Month for November.

Elsa Shank of Powell and Oliver Leiser of Blacklick, were both nominated by their respective teachers in recognition of their hard work and determination to succeed in the virtual classroom this year. As Star Students, Elsa and Oliver will be presented a certificate recognizing their achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s website.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize these students and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”

Elsa, a first grader, was nominated by her teacher Ms. Welty because as a new student she has worked hard through difficult circumstance. “Elsa cares about her work. She gets every lesson done each day and I can tell she likes school,” Ms. Welty said. “I know this year is very difficult for most and they are getting over the obstacles one day at a time.”

Oliver is an eighth grader and was nominated by his social studies teacher Mr. Durbin because he is an extremely motivated student who strives to do his best with all of his work. “He (Oliver) provides invaluable feedback during our conversations, elaborating on key ideas and building on concepts,” Mr. Durbin said. “He takes feedback that he is given and uses it to further his knowledge of the subject.”
