One takeaway from Tuesday’s primaries is that the voters of Kansas are a lot smarter than the voters of Indiana. Of course, it’s a low bar when voters here have elected seven election-denying House members and turned our state government over to the likes of a Todd Rokita.

I am sick and tired of hearing some members of Congress thanking those of us that actually served in the U.S. service while they sit in their air conditioned office and vote against any bill to help us. During the days of the draft, there were very few poor people able to pay for deferments or just plain dodge the draft with things such as bone spurs. And to take money away from programs intended for real veterans so they could build an ineffective border wall should have resulted in an indictment. Why would any young person want to defend our country at this point when we are not willing to pay for the health problems actually caused by serving in the military? If our government will not protect the ones protecting all of us, what does that tell us about our government? Hypocrites!

Dear Employers, getting tired of having few people wanting to work for you? Maybe if you took COVID precautions more seriously, people would feel safer being indoors your place of employment. Just because you feel it is business as usual, there actually are still people who believe the medical professionals and know COVID is still a concern. You scoff at mask wearing. You deny vaccines work. You offer few sick days. You do little to social distance while they work. You wonder why no one wants to work for you? Maybe people believe their health is more important than your wealth. Maybe you have no one to blame but yourself.

Republicans who still lie about the election being stolen won in some primary elections. My Republican Party no longer exists. It is now a cult that doesn’t believe in the truth or facts. We have to face reality that Republicans like me have to vote for Democrats to save our party and the democracy of our country.

Trump-backed candidates came out ahead because he only picked sure winners. There was not one underdog that he brought up to win. He was betting on a race after it was over.

In response to the school-fair opening and closing dates, carnival and circus activities should never be a factor in when schools open or close. Schools are a mandate and a critical component in the development of our country. County fairs are entertainment! However, collaboration is a great way to show respect for each other in spite of their status!

I watched Fox News, or Fox Entertainment, for a few minutes just to hear what their position might be on some of the breaking news. One item was the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which will include help with prescriptions, climate control and fair taxing methods. The legislation is very popular among the public but as we all know opposed by Republicans. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va, was responding to the Fox host. The host only had one agenda that was to discredit Manchin’s comments on the IRA. Manchin was direct, factual and on target. The host got frustrated and appeared to be concerned that she was going to look “bad” in defense of her station’s philosophy. It is a real tragedy when a news or entertainment outlet and its employees must deny or try to discredit the truth in order to push a certain toxic agenda and to keep their jobs. I believe the Fox hosts know better. I guess, however, integrity can be marginalized by the almighty dollar. I switched channels in a hurry!

The Secret Service and now the Pentagon personnel responsible for the January 6th response for the attack on the Capitol erased their phone and text messages. No matter what party you support, you better pay attention. This is how coups start. This needs to be investigated immediately and people replaced that performed these actions.

Republicans, the inventors of political “dirty tricks,” are absolutely infuriated by what they see as Democrats “meddling” in their primaries by backing those candidates that they think will be the weakest in the general election. But the mountain of evidence that Russia has been meddling in our elections for years has never gotten anything more from them than a bored yawn and predictable accusations of “fake news.” Of course, the difference is that Russia has always been on their side.
