Drive-In Concert Coming To New Hyde Park

The Town of North Hempstead will host drive-in concerts and the "Concerts by Candlelight" series next month at various venues.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — The Town of North Hempstead will host drive-in concerts and the "Concerts by Candlelight" series for residents next month at venues throughout the Town, including in New Hyde Park.

Three drive-in concerts will take place this August, officials said. In New Hyde Park, "That Motown Band" will perform at Clinton G. Martin Park on Aug. 28. The show will begin at 7 p.m.

In nearby Port Washington, "Jimmy Kenny and the Pirate Beach band" will perform Sunday night at North Hempstead Beach Park. "Captain Jack" will then perform at the same venue Friday, Aug. 7, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Residents will be admitted in their cars beginning one hour prior to the show. Residents must register their cars in advance by going to NorthHempsteadNY.gov/drive-in or by calling 311.

The Town will also host the "Concerts by Candlelight" series Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month of August at various Town parks, including Whitney Pond Park in Manhasset, North Hempstead Beach Park, Clark Botanic Garden in Roslyn Heights and Martin "Bunky" Reid Park in Westbury.   • Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 7:30 p.m., Clark Botanic Garden: Ken McGorry (music from the 70s and 80s)
  • Thursday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m., North Hempstead Beach Park: Squeaky Clean (family friend rock and roll band)
  • Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m., Whitney Pond Park: Conga (Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound tribute)
  • Thursday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m., Martin "Bunky" Reid Park: Caribbean Vibe Steel Drum Band
  • Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., Clark Botanic Garden: Cold Spring Harbor Band (Billy Joel Tribute)
  • Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m., North Hempstead Beach Park: NY Exceptions (classic oldies tunes)
  • Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m., Whitney Pond Park: Nitework (music from the 60s, 70s and today)
  • Thursday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m., Martin “Bunky” Reid Park: The Clusters (doo-wop)

Residents will be admitted on a first come, first serve basis. Concerts will be limited to the first 50 individuals. To maintain social distancing, residents will be asked to stay within their designated seating circles, which will be six feet apart from each other.

All events are free, but the Town encourages attendees to bring non-perishable or canned foods to each concert as part of North Hempstead's donation drive.

There will be no food available for purchase at these events. Residents are encouraged to bring their own snacks. Restroom facilities will be available.
