This World Bank webinar series is aimed at generating integrated solutions for cities to tackle pressing environmental issues. Co-hosted by the Global Platform for Sustainable Cities (GPSC) and the Global Program on Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience, the series connects policymakers, practitioners, and experts as they work to ensure that biodiversity becomes central to urban and development projects.

Our discussions put an urban lens on issues to be discussed during the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity, October 11–15, 2021, and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26), November 1–12, 2021.

We will discuss four key themes in the series:

  1. Urban ecological and land-use planning for environmental conservation and climate resilience
  2. Urban nature, biodiversity and carbon neutrality
  3. Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for climate-resilient cities
  4. Investing in nature

The events are presented in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), CBD Secretariat, World Economic Forum, International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability, the European Union’s NATURVATION project, the Alexander von Humboldt Institute, and Biophilic Cities.

For more information on the series and to RSVP, visit the GPSC event page.

  • The webinar series was launched at a high-level event, Pathways to Integrated Urban Solutions for Climate Change & Biodiversity Loss, on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 8:30–9:30 am ET.

The panelists discussed opportunities and challenges in achieving an equitable, nature-positive and carbon-neutral future, and the role of cities in bending the curve away from biodiversity loss and limiting the rise in temperature to 1.5°C.
