Coronavirus: Indiana's cases top 60K and climbing

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Indiana's tally of coronavirus cases topped 60,000, according to data published Friday by the Indiana State Department of Health.

The statewide tally in Thursday's data was 59,602, but that jumped 996 cases in the data released Friday to a total of 60,598. The state's running seven-day average of new cases is 830.

New cases in Indiana reported in Monday's data indicated Indiana had 57,206 cases. It's jumped by more than 3,000 cases in five days.

Deaths from the virus increased by four to 2,687, according to Friday's data.

Tippecanoe County new COVID-19 cases jumped by 21 in Friday's release from the state health department, bringing the county's total to 942.

The running seven-day average of Tippecanoe County new cases jumped to 17, a new high in that metric.

The other nine counties in the area around Lafayette were either unchanged or reported single-digit increases in new cases, according to Friday's data.

Here were the numbers for the state and Tippecanoe County’s neighbors and the daily increase in coronavirus cases and deaths, according to Friday’s report from the Indiana State Department of Health.

  • Benton County:  55 cases, increase of 1; deaths, zero; cases per 10,000 residents: 62.9.
  • Carroll County: 120 cases, unchanged; deaths, 2; cases per 10,000 residents: 59.2.
  • Clinton County: 318 cases; increase of 2; deaths, 3; cases per 10,000 residents: 98.2.
  • Fountain County: 48 cases, increase of 1; deaths, 2; cases per 10,000 residents: 29.4.
  • Jasper County: 168 cases, increase of 3; deaths, 2; cases per 10,000 residents: 50.1.
  • Montgomery County: 310 cases, increase of 2; deaths, 21; cases per 10,000 residents: 80.9.
  • Newton County: 104 cases, increase of 1; deaths, 10; cases per 10,000 residents: 74.4.
  • Tippecanoe County:  942 cases, increase of 21; deaths, 11, increase of 1; cases per 10,000 residents: 48.1.
  • Warren County: 19 cases, increase of 1; deaths, 1; cases per 10,000 residents: 23.0.
  • White County: 315 cases, increase of 4; deaths, 10; cases per 10,000 residents: 130.7.

Testing sites open in Tippecanoe County

The Indiana State Department of Health will continue testing this week in several sites around the Lafayette area.

The state's sites are open to anyone in Indiana who wants to be tested, regardless of whether they have symptoms or a high-risk status.

Registration for testing at other sites in the Lafayette area is required online at lhi.care/covidtesting or by phone at 888-634-1116. The state sites in and near Tippecanoe County include:

In Lafayette: Durgan Elementary School, 1840 S. 18th St., Lafayette

In West Lafayette: White Horse Christian Center, 1780 Cumberland Ave. (Drive-through testing available without appointment.)

In Frankfort: 1234 Rossville Ave.
