Todd McShay has Cowboys selecting Texas A&M TE Jalen Wydermyer in 2022 mock draft

Has Dallas fixed its defense enough to turn its attention back to offense for 2022 NFL draft?

For all the sugar plums Jerry Jones was seeing the Dallas Cowboys were not in position to draft Florida tight end Kyle Pitts in the 2021 draft.

Whether or not the future of the position in Dallas belongs to Blake Jarwin or Dalton Schultz remains to be seen. As does whether or not the Cowboys addressed enough of their defensive shortcomings in this year’s draft to afford Dallas the luxury of prioritizing offensive skill positions in 2022.

Still, ESPN’s Todd McShay has Dallas selecting Texas A&M TE Jalen Wydermyer in his 2022 mock draft (and for what it’s worth, so does Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski).

“There was some talk of the Cowboys wanting to move up the board for Kyle Pitts heading into this year’s draft, but it would have taken a massive trade package to get it done,” McShay writes. “Tight end remains the missing piece on offense for Dallas, and after it dedicated its first six picks to defense last week, it will now be able to look back to offense next year. Wydermyer has a great 6-foot-5, 255-pound frame and is productive. The Texas native has six TDs in each of his two seasons with the Aggies and has averaged 12.2 yards per catch over his career.”
