An earthquake with a 6.4 magnitude shook Southern California ahead of Fourth of July celebrations Thursday.
M6.4 on a strikeslip fault about 10 miles from Ridgecrest. Not the San Andreas fault. It is an area with a lot of little faults but no long fault

People took to social media to describe the shaking in 280 characters and posted videos of the rolling sensations felt from Bakersfield all the way to Las Vegas.
The epicenter is in Searles Valley, a remote desert area north of Barstow and about 25 miles northeast of Ridgecrest.

I made breakfast and as soon as I sat down to eat, I felt the #earthquake. I’m laughing at myself because I walked to a doorframe, like I’m supposed to, but I took my plate with me. pic.twitter.com/lQSZ5ysLdB
