Authorities identify Ventura man killed in Carpinteria crash

Authorities have identified the Ventura man killed in a crash on Highway 101 in Carpinteria over the weekend.

Justin Ulmer, 25, had been driving a pickup that crashed in a construction zone Saturday morning, according to the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau.

The single-vehicle accident occurred around 6:35 a.m. Saturday near the Linden Avenue overpass, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Ulmer had been driving a 2002 Ford Ranger southbound. A freeway construction project has lanes in that section of Highway 101 bounded by K-rails.

Ulmer lost control of the truck north of Linden Avenue, authorities said. The truck left the road and overturned, coming to rest on its roof in the center divider just south of the Linden crossing.

CHP officials said they did not know whether Ulmer had been wearing a seat belt. He was partially thrown from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for almost two hours as CHP investigated.
