Some parents at Deer Creek Public Schools said their students will not attend classes this week in protest as they demand a return to the classroom full-time.
"We just want to have a voice in our kids' education," said Brian Dalke, a Deer Creek parent.
But parents said their voices are not being heard.
"A lot of us are speaking to teachers and principals, and they know we can get back safely," said Dalke.
The district said it is following the recommendations and guidelines set forth by the state education department.
Oklahoma County is currently in the orange level 1 category with a recommendation that schools should remain on the A/B schedule.
At a district school meeting, a middle school counselor spoke out, opposing the return to school.
But parents and students are persistent in their fight for in-person learning.
"It has been horrible. I feel like they have declined socially. They are declining academically. Both of them are upset a lot more frequently," said Callie Black, a Deer Creek parent.
Black said neither of her sons are not receiving the extra therapy they are required with their learning plans.
A spokesperson for the school said the board has no plans to meet for a special meeting at this time.
