Cities Combine Resources To Create Coronavirus Response Unit

On Monday, the cities of Clearwater, Largo and Safety Harbor put a specialized coronavirus response unit into service.

CLEARWATER, FL — On Monday, the cities of Clearwater, Largo and Safety Harbor put a specialized coronavirus response unit into service to answer calls from people with the coronavirus.

This three-person crew will respond to confirmed and potential coronavirus patients throughout the middle of Pinellas County. They will be in a rescue unit specially equipped to prevent cross-contamination of patients and crew, with much of the inside of the rear portion of the vehicle covered in plastic.

The driver will remain with the vehicle and not interact with the patient to limit the number of employees coming into contact with the patient.

This is a joint effort to keep system units available and reduce exposure to large numbers of employees. All employees volunteered for the assignment and will work on a rotating schedule.
