Companies In MA Still Hiring During Coronavirus Pandemic

BOSTON — Since the coronavirus pandemic shut down large swaths of the Massachusetts economy, unemployment levels have reached record highs every week.

As the state's economy re-opens in phases, many of those jobs are expected to come back, but not all of them will.

Massachusetts restaurant owners warned that 60,000 of the 150,000 jobs lost so far may never come back. Hotel and other hospitality employees have also been hit hard, particularly on Cape Cod and in western Massachusetts. Both regions are highly dependent on restaurant and lodging jobs.

The number of Massachusetts residents applying for first-time unemployment benefits during the week that ended May 23 was 37,740, according to Thursday's U.S. Department of Labor report. So far, 936,181 Massachusetts workers have filed for unemployment during the pandemic. The job losses have hit poor, urban cities like Lawrence and Springfield, and towns with seasonal economies like those on Cape Cod the hardest.

But despite unemployment levels climbing, a good number of employers are currently searching for workers in Massachusetts.

The employment site Indeed.com has listed scores of jobs that have opened even as the virus continues and many businesses remain closed.

You can search here for job openings in our area.

You'll note that some postings went up more than 30 days ago. But also notice that many of the jobs have been advertised within the past few days and weeks.

If you're a small business owner in Massachusetts in search of employees and you're not on Indeed, you can post your job openings in the Patch classified section. Here are instructions.
