CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Aggravated robbery: Coventry Road

At 6:45 p.m. Oct. 15, a man reported that he parked his Audi automobile in front of 1846 Coventry Road and was unloading from its trunk equipment for a show he was promoting at a local venue. As he did so, a white Jeep pulled up beside him and the male driver, 20-23 years of age, moved to the passenger side and opened the passenger door.

The male in the Jeep brandished a handgun and told the man to give him everything or he would kill him. The man began to take off his diamond chain necklaces when the suspect told him, “Don’t call the police or I will kill you.” The suspect then demanded the man’s Rolex watch and cell phone, then his earrings. The victim told the suspect that the earrings were fake, and he was allowed to keep them.

After taking the man’s belongings, the suspect drove off. A friend of the victim’s sat nearby in a car, watched what happened, and took a picture of the suspect’s license plate number. Police investigated and learned that the license plate belonged on another vehicle, which had been sold in June. Police contacted the seller and gained information about the buyer, who is now a suspect. Further, the robber threw back the victim’s cell phone into the victim’s trunk. Police are checking DNA left on the phone.

The victim estimated the value of the stolen Rolex watch at $80,000, and his two diamond chains at $90,000 and $75,000.

Felonious assault: Bluestone Road

At 12:30 a.m. Oct. 14, police were called to an apartment on a report of a disturbance between a man and woman. When officers arrived they found the back door open and heard a man yelling for help from a bedroom. As officers approached the bedroom, they saw blood on the floor.

The man had a stab wound on his side and said he was stabbed by the mother of his child. The woman accused the man of cheating on her and said she had found on his phone text messages with other women. The woman was no longer in the apartment. Police found in the kitchen sink a knife blade that had on it dried blood. The knife’s handle was found on the floor. The man was treated on the scene and refused to be taken to the hospital.

While police were still at the apartment, they received a call from a male stating that the woman was outside in a car parked on the street, near the home. Police located the car and arrested the woman for felonious assault and domestic violence. Also in the car was another woman who was with the suspect when she went inside the man’s home, and returned to the car with blood on her shirt and a cut on her arm.

EMS was called to aid the woman, but she shouted derogatory names at paramedics and refused help.

Weapon discharged: Ardoon Street

At 4:05 p.m. Oct. 14, it was reported that a bullet had been shot into a classroom on the south side of Noble School, 1293 Ardoon St. The bullet had been discovered the day before, at 4:30 p.m., by a custodian. Police determined the bullet was shot, at an unknown time, through a classroom window and into the ceiling.

Assault: Cedar Road

At 12:10 p.m. Oct. 14, officers were called to the area of Coventry and Berkshire roads on a report of an assault in progress. Officers found the caller, a woman, 37, in her parked car in a lot. There were two small cuts under her right nostril. The woman, who was visibly upset, had blood on a mask she held and on her shirt.

The woman explained that she had bought food in the drive-thru lane at Wendy’s, 13246 Cedar Road, but could not drive forward to leave the lane because the car in front of her was still waiting for food. The woman, whose car was pinned in between this auto and the one behind her, honked her horn twice. The car behind her backed up, allowing the woman to leave. As she drove past the Honda in front of her, its male driver gave her the finger. The woman left the lot, but noticed the Honda following her.

At a stoplight on Lee Road, the Honda stopped so close behind her car the woman thought it had struck her vehicle. She opened her door to see how close the other car was, and saw the male walking toward her car. The woman closed her car door and tried to roll up her window, but the man was able to reach in and punch her in the face. The car window rolled up, so the man, unable to punch more, walked back to his car and drove away westbound on Cedar Road.

At Wendy’s, police learned that the man in the Honda paid for his food with a credit card. After learning his identity, dispatch called the man and asked him to meet with police. The man admitted getting angry because the woman honked at him, and that he followed her. He said that as he walked toward her car, she was yelling at him, so he reached in and slapped her.

The man said he then drove to work and was so overwhelmed with guilt by what he did, he searched online for “how to kill yourself without using a gun.” Police learned the man had been diagnosed years earlier with depression and anxiety, but that he hadn’t taken his medication in 10 years, believing he had his anger under control. Overwhelmed with emotion, the man asked police to take him to the hospital for evaluation.

Police did so and charged the man with felonious assault.
