Insurance surveyed more than 6,950 dog and cat owners across
the United States this holiday
season to learn if, and how, pets are included in holiday
traditions.
The survey found that Americans don't just give gifts to their
human family members during the holidays, but to their dogs and
cats as well, with 92% of pet owners purchasing gifts for their
pets. The most popular gift? Toys. While treats came in a close
second, 94% of gift-giving pet parents purchase a toy for their pet
during the holidays. Turns out, presentation is also important to
pet owners as 62% take the time to wrap their furry friend's gifts,
and 77% even have a stocking for their pet. So take note American
retailers, with 73% of pet owners spending between $10-$50 on gifts
and 5% spending $100 or more, pet
parents are a key demographic at the holidays.
These results demonstrate that now more than ever, pets are not
just "pets," rather members of the family. We travel with them (44%
of those surveyed take their pet with them during holiday travel),
include them in our holiday photos & cards (62% of those
surveyed do), and they're a part of our gift-giving traditions.
