Vermont man dies in custody at Franklin County House of Correction: report

GREENFIELD - A Vermont man who had been arrested hours earlier on drug charges died in custody over the weekend while at the Franklin County Jail and House of Correction, according to reports.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports the man, a 35-year-old resident of Jamaica, Vermont, was found unresponsive Saturday during a routine cell check. He was brought to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s name has not yet been disclosed to the public.

According to the Reformer, he had been arrested earlier in the day on drug charges by Massachusetts State Police.

The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office is investigating. The Republican has reached out to the DA’s office for additional information.
