  • Lila Moss, 19, hasn't spoken much about her type 1 diabetes, but she continues to quietly advocate for those with the disease.

  • The model has made a habit of putting her life-saving technology on full view at major events, runway shows, and now, in a new ad campaign.

  • “I’d definitely like to try and help as much as I can,” she previously told The Kit.

Model Lila Moss has become a quiet but powerful advocate for people living with type 1 diabetes, and she just made another serious statement. Lila appears in a new Fendi-Versace ad campaign with her diabetes glucose monitor on full display.

The 19-year-old shared a photo from the ad campaign on Instagram. In the pic, she’s posing in a gorgeous mini dress and funky heels (WANT) while showing off a tiny purse. While the shot is all about her style, Lila’s Freestyle Libre continuous glucose monitor is clearly visible on her tricep.

While Lila didn’t mention the pump in her caption, plenty of others did. “Just like my daughter a t1 warrior 🙌💙 #type1strong #diabadass,” one wrote. “Example of #T1D, woman, beautiful, successful, BRAVO 👏👏👏,” another chimed in. “Thank you for showing your libre, it means a lot for the type 1 community ❤️,” someone else said.

This isn’t the first time Lila has proudly displayed the essential health technology that keeps her alive while modeling. Last year, she walked the Fendi x Versace runway with an insulin pump clearly visible on her thigh.

Her glucose monitor and pump were also visible when she walked the red carpet at the Met Gala earlier this month.

In case you’re not familiar with it, type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition where your pancreas produces little or no insulin, per the Mayo Clinic. (Insulin is a hormone your body needs to allow sugar—also called glucose—to enter your cells to give you energy).

Treatment for type 1 diabetes centers around managing blood sugar levels with diet, lifestyle, and insulin, and patients require regular injections of insulin to help keep their blood sugar stable. Many, like Lila, will use a pump that dispenses certain amounts of insulin automatically. Her monitor tracks her glucose levels all day so she knows when she might need insulin.

Lila’s gotten some serious props for repeatedly displaying her pump.

Lila has spoken only rarely about her diabetes. “I think not many people know that I have diabetes,” she previously told The Kit. “It’s not visible from the outside, so no one would really know just by looking at you. I have type 1.”

But Lila made it clear that it’s important for her to help other people living with type 1 diabetes. “I’d definitely like to try and help as much as I can,” she said. “There’s loads of things I’d like to try and help with.”
