More than 50,000 people in the state of Indiana have now had coronavirus. The Indiana State Department of Health reported 748 new cases of coronavirus and an additional nine deaths on Friday, bringing the total tally of cases to 50,300.

The new numbers are the highest for any day yet this month. Earlier this week saw about half that number of confirmed cases.

One day after a mandatory mask order went into place, Marion County saw 109 new cases reported. Lake had almost that many, with 98 new cases.

Hamilton County saw 31 new cases confirmed.

While intensive care unit beds and ventilator availability remained steady over recent days, the number of people hospitalized across the state continued to climb, reaching 725, the highest level in the past three weeks.

The Regenstrief Institute dashboard, which tracks trends over seven days, found that both emergency room visits and intensive care unit admissions are on the rise. The number of positive tests and hospital admissions are inconclusive, while deaths remain on the decline.
