Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton doesn’t wear the most expensive pair of shoes in his extensive sneaker collection -- not because of their value, but because the Air Jordan 5 Retro Fab Five PF is tied to Michigan basketball.

“I’ll probably never wear them because I’m an Alabama guy,” Sexton said.

The former Crimson Tide standout showed off part of his collection in a “My Life in Sneakers” segment for GQ Sports. Sexton was limited to the shoes still at his parents’ home in Georgia, where he was riding out the coronavirus pandemic. The rest are at his home in Cleveland.

Sexton still has a pair of the sneakers he wore at Alabama – the Nike Zoom Kobe 7 System TB White Varsity Crimson.

Sexton didn’t have to buy the Retro Fab Five pair. He picked them out from a selection of shoes offered by Nike when he visited the company headquarters before he joined the Cavaliers as the eighth player picked in the 2018 NBA Draft.

In his first season with Cleveland, Sexton became the third rookie in NBA history to average at least 16 points per game while shooting at least 40 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line, joining Larry Bird and Stephen Curry.

This season, Sexton had a 20.8-points-per-game scoring average when the NBA stopped playing in March with 17 contests left on the Cavaliers’ schedule.

NBA teams are starting to re-open their practice facilities for individual workouts, with the Cavaliers among the first to do so. But the league has not announced plans for resuming the season. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had a conference call with team owners and executives last week, and while some of the participants expressed optimism about a return to the court, no roadmap for making that happen was presented.
