EMMET COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A group fighting for states’ rights will meet at Petoskey’s library this Saturday.

The Convention of States is an organization looking to use Article 5 of the Constitution to allow states to create amendments without federal oversight.

The group has three goals: Impose term limits on federal officials, limit the power of the federal government and restrict how the government can use taxpayer money.

"At least in northern Michigan, there's probably only five to ten percent of the people that have ever even heard of Convention of States,” Convention of States Regional Captain Bruce Finlayson said. “And probably even fewer that realize Article 5, as drafted by the founders, gives the states an opportunity to rein in what they believe to be federal government overreach.”

The group will hold a meeting Saturday morning at the Petoskey Public Library.

The meeting will take place at 10 a.m. and will have a Q&A session afterward.
