Affordable Blinds: Best of the Best 2018 Winner

Amanda Lisk

Jeff Britt, owner of award-winning Affordable Blinds and More, began his career in window coverings at a young age, growing up going to his mother’s drapery workshop after school and learning the ins and outs of the industry.

By age 16, Britt was installing window treatments for his mom and local designers and later for names like JCPenney and Ethan Allen. It was in 2008, after a brief stint in the Navy and in the middle of a recession, when Britt decided to start his own window treatment business, vowing to put customer service above all else.

“I did not like installing for those large corporations because of the lack of passion. I promised myself I would learn a lesson from that, that I would always remain passionate about the job,” Britt said.

Britt clearly took this vow seriously; ten years later his company has won the Best Window Treatments award in the StarNews 2018 Best of the Best competition. Runners up in this subcategory are Strickland’s Blinds, Shades & Shutters and Budget Blinds.

In a 1,200-square-foot warehouse on Oleander Drive and with a small selection of blinds, shutters, shades and his mother’s drapes, Britt opened Affordable Blinds and More. Within the first year, sales surpassed all expectations and sales have doubled every year thereafter.

“He worked day and night. All of his blood, sweat and tears paid off,” said Jeff’s wife Angela Britt, who left her career as a hair stylist to work for the company when business started to boom.

“With having such great customer service and him just knowing so much about the industry from being in this industry since he was a kid, that’s why people seek us out,” she said.

Today, the local family owned and operated window treatment business which competes on a daily basis against national franchises is the winner of the Alta Highest Sales in the Southeast award, the Graber Premium Partner award, the Angie’s List Super Service award and has been voted the Best of Best StarNews Shore Picks two years in a row.

In 2019 Affordable Blinds and More will be expanding into a new 3,000-square-foot warehouse and showroom featuring all new displays. The added square footage will allow Affordable Blinds to get more products in faster for its customers who come from a 60-mile radius throughout the region.
