Some schools closing early Thursday due to threat of severe weather

TENNESSEE, USA — Some East Tennessee school systems will be closing early on Thursday, March 25, 2021 due to the threat of severe weather.

You can always find the complete and most updated list here. 

Here's the list as of 11 a.m.:

  • Cross Creek Christian closing at 1:30 PM
  • Fairview Christian Academy closing at 12:00 PM
  • McMinn County Schools closing at 12:30 PM
  • Meigs County closing at 12:30 PM
  • Sweetwater City Schools closing at 1:30 PM
  • Lenoir City closing at 2 p.m.
  • Loudon County closing at 2 p.m.
  • The Childrens House closing at 1:30 p.m.

We are expecting the possibility of three rounds of severe weather on Thursday. You can get the most updated forecast here.

Round 1: Scattered showers with a few storms (no severe weather is expected) from around sunrise through most of the morning. Periods of heavy rain are possible and localized flooding may become a concern. Winds will also become breezy out of the south at 15-20 mph, gusting over 30 mph at times.

Round 2: Instability will increase across the region and from the early afternoon through around 7 PM, we could have scattered showers and a few strong/severe storms. Isolated tornadoes will be possible, mainly for the southern Valley and across the Plateau but everyone should be paying attention during this time.

Round 3: A line of showers and storms is expected to move across the entire viewing area between about 9 PM and 2 AM. While the main threat will be from the potential for damaging wind from thunderstorms, and isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
