Funeral held today for Ashley Manning, Somers native found dead in California

A funeral was held today for a Somers native who was recently found dead in a U-Haul truck in California.

A Mass for Ashley Manning was set for 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 95 Plum Brook Road in Somers, according to Clark Funeral Home.

Manning, a 29-year-old graduate of Somers High School, was found dead in a truck at a U-Haul facility in Fullerton, California, on Jan. 8, Anaheim police said. She had been living in Anaheim.

Police said they have been investigating Manning's death as suspicious, and that they have not yet determined whether it was a homicide. Toxicology results are pending.

Manning's body was wrapped in plastic inside the cargo hold of the abandoned rental truck, according to the Orange County Register. Her body was discovered by workers at the U-Haul location while they were conducting inventory of the truck.

Manning had been reported missing after she flew from Dallas to Los Angeles on Nov. 13, her sister, Taylor Manning, said in a Facebook post.

Ashley Manning was a 2009 graduate of Somers High School, where she was a soccer standout. She played soccer at Roanoke College and attended the University of California, Irvine, according to her obituary.

Manning enjoyed traveling and loved the beach, particularly Cape Cod and the Jersey Shore.

Manning is survived by her parents, Denise and Steve; sister, Taylor; brothers, Steven and James; and many relatives.
