Cecil County declares local state of emergency, as storm clean-up continues

Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger has declared a local state of emergency in the wake of Ida.

Cecil is the second county in the Baltimore region to declare a state of emergency, after Anne Arundel County.

Properties throughout the county, as well as public infrastructure, have sustained damage as a result of the storm, according to a press release.




The county currently has about five road closures due to high water and flooding, two days after the storm battered the Baltimore region.

They are in the Colora, Rising Sun, Port Deposit and Elkton areas.



The state of emergency will allow the county to better leverage resources to handle the aftermath of the storm, according to the press release.

Hornberger said in a statement:

The remnants of Hurricane Ida caused damages throughout Cecil County and this declaration will assist greatly in our efforts to assist those severely impacted. sincerely thank our Department of Emergency Services and first responders for their brave efforts in keeping Cecil residents safe.
