A world of fast-moving trends and social media crazes, popularity in the K-pop industry is ever-changing – and it’s almost impossible to predict which act will be the next one to make it super big.

Notorious for being not just the group which rose from the grave, but also the band hand-picked by the casting director behind BTS, Noh Min-mee, Victon is making its name among many K-pop fans – fast. Here’s the band’s journey so far.

 A rough start

After making its debut back in 2016, things didn’t exactly go smoothly for Victon, the members later admitting during a “trust game” for Dingo Music that they almost disbanded due to a poor response from the public. However members SeungWoo and ByungChan’s participation on Mnet’s Produce X 101 proved to be a howling success, opening new doors and opportunities.

SeungWoo later won a place in the band X1 as one of the Produce X 101 finalists, but eventually returned to Victon after the group was disbanded following an unfortunate vote manipulation controversy.

Glimpses of hope

Victon finally received its first music show win on The Show after making a comeback with fifth mini album “Nostalgia” in November 2019. Their rising popularity also allowed them to sell out its first New World 2020 concert earlier this year.

They had even doubled the physical sales of their sixth mini album “Continuous”, released in March, and just dropped the new single and MV Mayday on June 2.

Love calls from overseas

Aside from Korea, Victon managed to capture the hearts of fans across Asia, visiting various countries on tour including Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and even the Philippines.

Their constant communications with fans both in and out of Korea also earned the septet a spot in Billboard’s Social 50 chart.

Endorsement deals and DJ spiels

From dental products and clothing brands to accessories, Victon has gained recognition and earned the trust of commercial dealers.

Korean brand Just Bite has extended its endorsement deal with Victon, while Slowacide also formed a special collaboration, and accessory brand Kapsul opened up a collection especially for them.

Elsewhere two groups, SeungWoo and SeungSik, also broke ground as regular DJs hosting their radio show Blanket Kick every Tuesday.

Seven boys, but infinite potential

Calling Victon an all-round group does not seem to be an exaggeration, with the seven members proving their talents and skills on many occasions. Through their reality TV programmes such as Victon’s Born Identity and the Victon Trust Game for Dingo Music, fans also had the opportunity to get to know and learn them better as a group.

They have also received recognition from their peers, with BTOB’s EunKwang mentioning Victon as the K-pop group which had caught his attention during a recent V Live session.
