2019 Morongo Powwow Will Feature Three Days Of Dance, Music, Art

The 29th annual Thunder & Lightning Powwow will be held Sept. 27-29 at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon. Admission is free.

CABAZON, CA — The Morongo Band of Mission Indians is expecting more than 25,000 people to attend its 29th annual Morongo Thunder & Lightning Powwow, being held Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29 at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa.

The event is free and family-friendly, and will spotlight traditional Native American culture through dance, music and art. Each day of the festival will include the Grand Entry, a parade featuring live music and hundreds of dancers in traditional dress. All three days will also feature bird singing — traditional, metaphorical songs sung by the Cahuilla Indians and accompanied by dancing.

The event will host more than 75 vendors selling Indian tacos, tamales and frybread, as well as Native American jewelry, pottery and clothing.
