El Paso athletes fare well at the collegiate level

Several former El Paso high school athletes are competing on the college level and are having success. 

Here is a look at how some of them are doing. 

* Former Chapin running back Jason Cambra was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Rookie of the Week for Curry College on Sunday. Cambra had two receptions for the Colonels against Husson, including the first touchdown of his collegiate career. The touchdown reception was a seven-yard catch, while he also had a nine-yard catch earlier in the contest. He also had one eight-yard kick return.

* Socorro graduate Vivian Martinez has four goals and one assist this season for Texas A&M international. She lead team in points. 

* Eastlake graduate Chelcie Spence had 21 digs and three service aces for Stetson in five-set win against Liberty on Sunday. 

* Former Andress defensive back Tristan Cooper had four tackles and one tackle for a loss for the University of Arizona on Saturday night in a loss to the University of Washington.

* Former El Dorado defensive lineman Diego Assad had four tackles for UT-Permian Basin in a 14-10 loss to West Texas A&M on Saturday. 

* Former Chapin football player Matthew Zubiate caught one pass for 21 yards as a tight end for UT-Permian Basin on Saturday in a 14-10 loss to West Texas A&M. 

* Former Franklin quarterback Baylor Romney completed 6 of 10 passes for 73 yards for Brigham Young against South Florida on Saturday in a 27-23 loss. 

* Former San Elizario distance runner Ulises Cardoza is a member of the Tennessee Wesleyan cross country team. 

* Former Eastwood cross standout Anna Mora competes for East Central Oklahoma University. 

* Former Eastlake volleyball player Annalyssa Acosta has seven digs and two assists for New Mexico State in a win against Grand Canyon University on Saturday. 

* Former Burges volleyball player Savannah Marenco has 116 kills and 166 digs for Odessa College. 

* Former Eastlake volleyball player Megan Martinez has 67 kills and 29 service aces for McMurry University. 

Megan Martinez is Eastlake's junior hitter.

* El Paso native Emily Alvarado had 50 saves as a goalkeeper this season for the TCU women's soccer team. The Horned Frogs are 8-4-1 on the season.   

* Former San Elizario volleyball player Jana Villa has 87 digs and 25 kills for Berea College. 

* Former San Elizario volleyball player Amanda Trevizo has 293 digs for Seminole State College. 

* Former Chapin volleyball player Rebekah Spencer has 38 digs, 15 assists and 11 service aces for Eastern New Mexico. 

* Former Bel Air soccer player Allison Cohen has started seven matches for Texas A&M International.

* Former Franklin swimmer Airam Oliva-Aun competes at New Mexico State in the 200-yard medley relay, the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free. She finished 2nd in the 50 free in the team's first meet earlier this season and 2nd in the 100-yard free. 

* Former Franklin swimmer Kiersten Valdez competes at NMSU in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke. 

* Former Eastlake volleyball player Stephanie Sanchez has 97 kills for UT-Permian Basin in Odessa. 

* Former Andress volleyball player Jada Cortez has 60 kills and six service aces for McMurry University. 

* Former Coronado volleyball player Elyse Benavides has 97 kills for Whitman College. 

* Former Chapin volleyball player Jessica Landeros had three kills and a block assist for the UTEP Miners in a win against Louisiana Tech on Sunday. 

* Former Eastwood football player Evan Aguilar is a key contributor at linebacker for Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Aguilar has helped the team team to a 5-1 record and a top 10 ranking in NAIA.
