"It's a huge honor to be asked to host," Driesenga said. "Park Theatre is the type of place I've always wanted to be part of, whether it's playing shows or being more in the fold. I think people can expect a real sense of community there."

The weekly event will look a little different post-pandemic. For one thing, performers will need to book ahead of time by contacting Driesenga at facebook.com/parktheatreopenmic.

"That way, we can provide an extra layer of thought when we arrange and curate," Driesenga said. "It's best for the audience and the performers."

Park Theatre's new host for open mic night is local musician Jair Driesenga.

Entry is $3 for audience members and performers. Drinks and pizza will be available for purchase inside. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and performances begin at 8 p.m.

Visitors can expect a mixture of music, comedy and poetry over the course of the series.

"I like to mix it up and push an eclectic stage for everybody," Driesenga said. "You'll see hip-hop and folk rock and classic guitar. You might see a comedian or spoken word poetry. It's an eclectic night of self-expression and uninhibited being yourself."

For Driesenga, returning to in-person performances has been "jubilant."

"It's incredible when everyone is in that room together," he said. "You really just appreciate being in-person. People are really excited right now."
