Liverpool jetted off to the United States this week as they prepare for a testing pre-season.The Reds will take part in the International Champions Cup, where they will face Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Manchester United. It’s a perfect opportunity for Jurgen Klopp to get a greater understanding of his new-look team heading into the season.Naby Keita and Fabinho travelled with the squad while Xherdan Shaqiri is set to arrive for the New Jersey leg.Their tour gets underway on Sunday with a meeting against Dortmund in Charlotte. The World Cup has forced teams to condense their pre-season programmes into shorter periods, which isn’t ideal. And for many, adjusting to the various timezones is just another difficult factor to consider.

Klopp's solution to jet lag

Klopp has come up with a solution to this problem - he wants his players to stick to ‘tour time’.

Rather than operating on local time - five hours behind BST - the players will change their watches and devices to three hours behind UK time.

Per the Liverpool Echo, Klopp believes the switch will help his players overcome jet lag.

Liverpool are in the United States for just a week and it’s important that they maximise their time out there.

Klopp doesn’t want tiredness to be an excuse, especially with three important fixtures to come.

After Sunday’s match against Klopp’s former side, Liverpool travel to New Jersey to take on Man City.

Many believe the Premier League title will be a direct competition between the two sides and so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

It’s then on to Michigan, where Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United await next Saturday.

So fans won’t have to wait much longer to see their side in action.

It’s an improved team to the one that reached the Champions League final last season, with Keita and Fabinho adding quality to the midfield.

How good can this Liverpool team be? We will soon find out.
