Stephenville turns away Abilene Cooper in volleyball

Stephenville beat Cooper 25-13, 21-25, 25-23, 25-11 in a nondistrict volleyball match Tuesday night in Stephenville.

Dazz Larkins led Cooper with 14 kills, while Keiana Kemp had eight, and Jennika Willis had six. Katie Pogue had 22 assists, and Jaycee Rhoads had eight. Ellie McMillon had 13 digs. Willis had nine, and Mollie Davis had eight. Haley Riley had 2½ blocks. Kemp and Willis had one each.

“I thought a lot of things we wanted to see from this weekend showed up again in this match. So, that’s good," Cooper coach Nora Campbell said. "We didn’t get off to a good start, but in the second game, we managed to play with a lead the entire game. That showed a lot of confidence in what we’re capable of doing. We fought through a lot of adversity. Because of the windows in the gym, the sun was in our eyes in Game 3, which we lost 25-23. I told the girls that’s an unexpected thing you have to overcome, and they did. They really fought through it. We’re showing improvement. We’re preaching stay the course. You have to trust in the process, and the process happens in practice.”

The Lady Cougars (8-10) play in the West Texas Spikefest beginning Friday at Frenship High School in Wolfforth.
