Two dead, one revived after suspected overdose in downtown Nashville, police say

Police are investigating after two men died and another was revived after a suspected drug overdose in in downtown Nashville early Tuesday morning.

All three were found unresponsive on 6th Avenue North just after 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Metro Nashville Police Department said. Police identified the two who died as Joshua Wolfe, 34, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Karl Smith, 25, of Lac la Biche, Alberta, Canada.

A 26-year-old man, who police said was Wolfe's friend and also from Elkhorn, was revived after being given Naloxone. Naloxone is a medicine that can help reverse a drug overdose.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that fentanyl was involved and working to identify where the men got the drugs, MNPD said. The man who survived told detectives he does not remember what happened.

Downtown surveillance footage is also being reviewed, police said.

The two Nebraska men came together to Nashville last Friday and were set to leave Tuesday, according to MNPD. Police said Smith was in town visiting a relative an also planning to leave Tuesday.

Police do not believe Smith knew the other two before they apparently met in the entertainment district prior to their suspected overdoses.
