Tanger Outlets officially broke ground Tuesday on their 37th outlet mall in the country which will occupy 32 acres in the growing Century Farms development in Antioch.

Five years in the making thanks to Covid pandemic delays, this 290,000-square-foot open-air shopping center joins CHS offices, an HCA free-standing ER and several apartment complexes as the latest amenity to come out of the ground at Century Farms.

"The fake news was wrong," Executive Chair of the Tanger Outlets board and company founder, Steven Tanger told the crowd assembled for the event. "Retail is not dead. Retail is alive and well in Nashville, Tennessee."

Tanger Outlets CEO Stephen Yalof said the Nashville location will offer a few firsts for the company as well as a revamp of an older version of the company's open-air concept.

"This will be the firs time we are building around a green space and making that community space a focus of the property," Yalof told The Tennessean. "In the last 10 or 15 years, a lot of outlet centers were built in this racetrack design with the parking on the outside and the shopping on the inside. We're going back to more of a traditional design in that the parking will be on the inside."

Mark McDonald, half of the power development duo Oldacre McDonald, developers of Century Farms, said he has enjoyed seeing 'patience rewarded' as all the parties involved endured delays during the pandemic.

"We lived through Covid and we did it as a team with Tanger," McDonald told The Tennessean. "It's nice to see when that works and creates a win-win deal. We thought all along this was the best anchor that was going to bring shopping to a community that wanted it."

He said there are multiple sit-down restaurants with pending deals right now and he feels Tanger's official announcement should help 'push them over the edge to commit.' He expected to announce those restaurants in the next month.

Tanger Outlets Nashville is slated to open in the fall of 2023.
