Authorities arrested a suspicious person Sunday morning at Mineta San Jose International Airport, after the man entered a secured area and claimed to have explosive devices.

Police were called around 7:30 a.m. for a security breach at the south end of the airport. An airport employee said a vehicle followed him past a secured gate, according to a San Jose Police Department release.

Police converged on the vehicle, but the suspect barricaded himself inside. When he eventually emerged, he said he swallowed an explosive device, and there was another one in his vehicle. Police found no explosive devices, and took him into custody.

Officers determined the 22-year-old suspect was having a mental health emergency. He was hospitalized for treatment for ingesting a large amount of an unknown medication. Once released, he will be booked on charges of trespassing on airport property and delaying officers, and will be provided mental health services, according to San Jose police.

There was no damage to airport property.
