TEWKSBURY — A Wilmington man who crushed a Billerica woman’s legs by allegedly flipping over a pool table at Maverick’s Restaurant on May 5 has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Justin Denorscia, 22, was arraigned on May 7 and released on his own recognizance. He was additionally ordered to stay away from the victim and the Main Street restaurant.

Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan said Denorscia arrived at Maverick’s at around midnight May 5, where he was asked to leave by the bartender and cook. The bartender told police the 22-year-old knew he wasn’t welcome in the restaurant and had been asked to leave “on at least 10 occasions,” according to Sheehan.

Denorscia left, but then returned to the restaurant through a back door roughly 10 or 15 minutes later. Once inside, he flipped a pool table over causing it to land on a 23-year-old Billerica woman’s legs.

“The unsuspecting female victim indicated that she was playing pool with her back to the door when all of a sudden she heard yelling and then the pool table landed on top of her, crushing her legs,” Sheehan said.

The woman was transported to Lowell General Hospital by ambulance, suffering serious injuries to both legs and an ankle.

After flipping the table, Denorscia ran down Main Street but was caught and held by patrons until police arrived.

In addition to the assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge, Denorscia was charged with vandalizing property and disorderly conduct.

The 22-year-old is slated to return to court on June 20.
