Whiskey Club Holds Coronavirus Benefit For Manassas Workers

MANASSAS, VA — The Old Town Whiskey Club is holding a fundraising campaign called Old Town Strong to help restaurant and bar employees who work in downtown Manassas try to make ends meet during the coronavirus crisis. The public can purchase t-shirts and hoodies as part of the campaign.

The merchandise, with "Old Town Strong" on the front, can be ordered in several different styles. The prices range from $24.99 for a t-shirt and $39.99 for a pullover hoodie.

Founded in 2019, the Old Town Whiskey Club organizes meetings, events, tastings, distillery tours and fundraisers.

All of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the employees of the restaurants and bars of Old Town Manassas, Old Town Whiskey Club President Gregory Cook said in an email to Patch. As of Thursday afternoon, the club had raised more than $5,800 for bar employees in Manassas.

"This is a campaign started by us Old Town Whiskey drinkers for the people responsible for taking care of us each and every day when we go out in Old Town Manassas," the club said on its Facebook page. "By picking up a shirt or two you are putting money into the hands of the service industry employees that need our help right now."

The fundraising campaign, in its first leg, will have multiple ways of raising money for the employees. Right now, the club is selling Old Town Strong merchandise through the Bonfire fundraising platform. After covering the cost of the shirt, the rest of the money goes to the restaurant and bar employees.

When purchasing merchandise on the fundraising platform, supporters can also leave an additional donation at the end of the purchase.
