Heating Issue Displaces Resident, Pet In Ellicott City: Officials

Authorities said a fuel tank broke in Ellicott City Monday morning, prompting authorities to respond to the potentially hazardous situation.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A ruptured heating tank drew state and local emergency personnel to an Ellicott City home on Presidents Day. One person was displaced as a result of the issue, authorities said.

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services' special operations team was among those dispatched to the 4000 block of Overlook Drive, where a homeowner's basement heating tank had ruptured, officials reported shortly after 10 a.m.

The Ellicott City Fire Department, Maryland Department of the Environment and fuel supplier also responded to assist with the cleanup.

Old Columbia Pike was shut down between Hunt Avenue and Sears House Court as personnel handled the hazardous situation, fire officials reported.

The homeowner and pet were being assisted by the Red Cross, according to authorities.

Fire crews were clearing the scene by 11 a.m., according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
