NORTH TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Week 14
(All games Friday unless noted. Rankings courtesy of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. Schedule is subject to change.)

GAME OF THE WEEK:
6A #25 EULESS TRINITY (5-1, 4-0) at HALTOM (5-2, 5-0) noon Friday
Not only is this game at high noon on the day after Thanksgiving for the 3-6A district championship, it has even more meaning for Trinity.  They have lost to the Haltom Buffalos each of the last two years, and badly want to end that streak.  Euless Trinity has won four straight after last week's 59-7 victory over Weatherford.  RB Ollie Gordon ran for 154 yards and 3 TDs.  The Trojans, who cracked the state’s top 25 in 6A this week, have clinched a playoff spot.  Haltom also has punched their playoff ticket, although it took a mini-miracle last week to keep them unbeaten in district play.  The Buffalos trailed Saginaw Boswell 31-7 in the fourth period, but Haltom QB Jace Washington ran for three scores in the final quarter to steal a 35-31 win.  It was the fifth consecutive win for Haltom after an 0-2 start.

NORTH GARLAND (1-4, 0-4) vs. GARLAND NAAMAN FOREST (4-2, 4-1)
Pay no attention to the records.  These are the two games of importance this week in 9-6A.  Based on the zone format, these two games will decide the remaining playoff spots in the district.  You win and you're in, joining Sachse and Wylie (who clinched earlier) in the playoffs.  Based on recent trends, Naaman Forest and Lakeview Centennial have the momentum heading into Thanksgiving weekend.  Naaman Forest has won three straight after last week's 30-7 victory over Rowlett.  Matua Mauga intercepted three passes to lead a Naaman Forest defense that allowed -12 yards rushing.  This will be Lakeview Centennial's first action since Nov. 6.  They won their last two going into that extended break.  The high-powered Garland High offense fell just short last week in a 52-49 loss to Wylie.  QB Cergio Perez was 28 of 39 for 401 yards and 5 TDs.  And despite having just one victory this year, North Garland is 48 minutes away from grabbing a postseason berth.  They were off last week and have lost four straight.

ROWLETT (3-2, 3-2) at SOUTH GARLAND (2-4, 2-3)

6A #11 DeSOTO (6-1, 4-1) at 6A #2 DUNCANVILLE (6-1, 4-0)
In other years, this game might have major playoff implications.  But in 2020, it's mostly for pride.  Both teams are locked into their playoff positions, but don't expect the effort to be any less on either side this week.  DeSoto has won two straight after last week's 56-7 victory over Mansfield.  QB Mark Allen continues to do a solid job of filling in for starter Samari Collier.  Allen had 298 total yards and accounted for 3 TDs against Mansfield.  Duncanville is on a five-game win streak.  They come off a 51-3 win over Mansfield Lake Ridge.  The loaded Panthers backfield was led last week by RB Malachi Medlock (152 yards, 2 TDs) and RB Marktavius Reed (100 yards and 2 TDs).

WACO (1-4, 0-2) at WAXAHACHIE (4-4, 3-2)
After running into COVID-related issues, this will be Waco's first action since Nov. 6.  Waxahachie continues to build momentum as they prepare for their first playoff appearance since 2017.  With the Indians trailing Hewitt Midway 28-13 in the fourth period last week, Waxahachie QB Brandon Hawkins, Jr., took over and helped deliver a 31-28 comeback win.  Hawkins ran for 208 yards and 3 TDs last week.
