Burenia - Obtain the Gravity Suit
Welcome to IGN's walkthrough for Metroid Dread. This page features information on your third exploration of the Burenia Region, including how to explore the depths of the region, find the Gravity Suit, and locate the elevator down to Artaria.
Reach the Burenia Depths
Video Guide: Obtain the Gravity Suit
Now that you’ve teleported back into the watery depths of Burenia, you can make your way out of the Teleportal room to the large sunken pit room to the left.
Missile+ Tank Upgrade: With the ability of the Space Jump, you can reach the far side of the pit - including the Missile+ Tank on the high platform on the far left side of the room. Simply follow the string of glowing orbs floating in the water.
After hanging from the magnetic rail to pull down the platform, double back across using the Space Jump to gain some height and reach the far door. Inside, you’ll find an Energy Recharge Station, and a path down through swarms of X-parasite fish.
Backtrack to the door to this area and use your scanner to pulse the area and reveal a bomb block below you, and travel down the small hole to a Missile Tank.
There are new enemies as you travel deeper into the depths of this region, including an underwater variant of that odd floating charging creature, which guards itself an in electrical field until it is ready to charge at you - so be ready with the counter.
Once you reach the bottom of the room, head right into a long hall with more creatures until you find a pit, and a grapple block along the right wall that you’ll need to find a spot to stand and yank it out. The bottom of this pit is a dead end, but you can climb up on the right to space jump across to a hallway on the left leading up to a Save Station.
From the Save Station, head right along the non-flooded tunnel to re-enter the pit with a great view of the grapple block you can pull out. Wait for all the swarms of fish creatures to spill out and eradicate them first, before space jumping into the hole and down to the next room.
Energy Tank Upgrade: As you enter the next flooded interior room, look above for a series of green switches you can trigger with your lock-on and Storm Missiles to remove the Storm Missile Block guarding an Energy Tank above, and climb up the far magnet rail to space jump back across and reach it.
Head down to defeat the second swimming charging creatures and through a hole at the back leading to a long tunnel that pours out into the bottom of an underwater pit. There’s an underwater version of that large whale creatures you encountered in Ghavoran, and just like the flying one, this will slowly swim back and forth shooting down a draining beam along its path. Either follow along behind it or unleash a salvo to kill it - it’s not inherently aggressive.
Moving past the pit to the right, take out the other X Parasites until you reach a small cave at the end that seems to be a dead end. Look upwards to spot a pulsing mass in the rocks, and shoot it with your Diffusion Beam to explode a tunnel entrance back to the left, and haul yourself in.
Passing through another tunnel, you’ll come to the last section of the pit, where you can carefully destroy the swimming electrical creature above before climbing to the far right side of the rocks and space jumping left to pull yourself into the facility above, finally getting out of the water for a moment. Take the right path to find a Missile Recharge Station, and watch for an X-Parasite version of the flying projectile spitting creature that will shoot faster paced acid bullets in all directions.
Use your Phantom Cloak to exit this room, and head into a large submerged tank full of swarming little creatures. You’ll need to space jump all the way across to the far left side from this height, but the creatures will make this harder, so you may have to stop along the way to shoot them all, then return to the right and climb up to try again.
Once you’re across, head up the small tunnel until you can find a series of pulsing mass to shoot and explore to dislodge a large container above you, and grapple small block to send the thing toppling down through the bridge below, breaking it open and allowing you to fall down and enter the door on the left.
This path leads to a Chozo Statue holding the long-awaited Gravity Suit, meaning you’ll finally have full mobility underwater to run, jump and even speed boost - with the addition of being able to finally enter freezing rooms and pools of magma alike!
Find the Artaria Elevator
Crashing the giant container down in the previous room means you won’t be able to backtrack just yet, so instead make use of the Gravity Suit’s ability to jump up to where you dislodged it, and find a Missile+ Tank you can’t reach yet, as well as a burrowing creature leaving behind an acid fog.
Head right into the Network Station to get a new update from ADAM regarding the X, and then move right past another Missile Tank just out of reach to return to Artaria - finally able to tackle some colder rooms in search of a way forward.
